By Dr. Wenchen Dong, Research and Development Engineer, StructureCraft
SEMINAR OVERVIEW
With growing interest in sustainable construction, the reuse of wood from deconstructed buildings—referred to as secondary timber—is gaining attention as a circular, low-carbon solution. This seminar will present recent research on the structural performance of secondary timber and cross-laminated secondary timber (CLST).
Dr. Wenchen Dong will discuss material variability, testing methods, modeling techniques, and grading strategies for CLST. The seminar will also explore how these approaches can contribute to sustainable building practices and the development of future codes and standards.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Wenchen Dong is a research and Development Engineer at StructureCraft with a strong background in timber engineering and sustainable construction. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury, where his research focused on the seismic performance of glulam frames with buckling-restrained braces. Prior to joining StructureCraft, he held research roles at University College London and Fraunhofer WKI, developing engineered wood products from recycled timber. His work bridges experimental testing, numerical modeling, and practical design in timber construction.
Feel free to share this seminar with colleagues and students who may be interested.
