Seminar Overview:
First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities across Turtle Island are accomplishing incredible feats every day. They’re building communities, fostering ethical wealth, and reigniting language and culture. There are ample opportunities for settler people and organizations to partner and work alongside Indigenous organizations in ways that not only build capacity and wellness for Indigenous communities but actively function to build the road of reconciliation we must all walk on.
As a settler who has had the privilege of working alongside Indigenous people and governments for over a decade, this talk provides a space to empower and inform the process of working with Indigenous communities in a good way. To workin a good way” means to come from an informed place, a place of respect, a place that actively mitigates harm, and a place of openness and sharing to approach collaborative work.
About Ms. Sarah Frey:
Ms. Sarah Frey is a settler of Austrian descent, who is privileged to be living and working on the Traditional Territory of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. As a communications specialist, Ms. Frey has worked alongside many First Nations governments and Indigenous organizations, all with the intent of fostering organizational capacity growth and telling the story of how active self-determination and decolonization are happening in the Canadian North. As the Communications Manager for Na-Cho NyäkDun Development Corporation, Ms. Frey works alongside a talented team to build wealth for the Nation in a way that prioritizes the wellbeing of the people,land, and waters.
