Seminar Overview

This seminar will explore the forest sector’s critical role in mitigating climate change. Dr. Thiffault will discuss how an ambitious portfolio of actions in forest lands and wood-processing industries could lead to significant reductions in CO₂ emissions—ranging from 0.5 to 6.7 Mt CO₂ eq per year by 2030 in Quebec. She will also address the impact of partial-cut harvesting in boreal forests, highlighting its capacity to maintain carbon stocks, supply high-quality wood products, and enhance overall forest resilience. Additionally, the session will cover the limited benefits of afforestation on abandoned agricultural lands and emphasize the importance of improved end-of-life management for wood products, such as cascading use and methane recovery from landfills.
